And then comes this card. I giggle before the quizzical expression even appears in her forehead.

"Sound it out, Abbie."

"Ahh."

I point to the other word. "What sound does this letter make?"

"Sssssss."

"Right. Now put them together."

"Ah - ss...Ahss.
